Berated and distracted in a love/hate relationship with Los Angeles, I loaded up my Kia Rio Cinco and headed north in August 2007 on the eve of arguably the nicest time to be in Southern California. Determined to toughen up and obtain a zen focus I have set out to write the novel of my dreams, secluded in a cabin on Donald Lake in Ottertail, Minnesota, the place of my birth. Humbled at the hands of family and nature I am inspired to chronicle the experience, of which pure intentions will surely be de-sanctified with sprawling rants of egotism and self-delusion to be blamed of course on the close proximity of myself with myself. A mission for honesty; hide nothing, hide from nothing. More importantly, I am here to train for my battle with Ivan Drago; the fate of the free world hangs in the balance.
It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude. -Emerson, "Self-Reliance"
